Welcome to my Madison County, NY milk bottle collection. I've been a collector for over 40 years and have more than 500 milk bottles from Madison County. Over the years my collector friends and I have discovered 100 dairies that have bottled milk in the county. Many were small dairies such as Mr. Smith who sold milk in West Eaton and had 6 milking cows. My neighbor Stuart Deland told me that Mr. Smith would pedal his milk out of a wheel barrow for 6 cents a quart. Other dairies were large such as the Dewan Dairy in Oneida and used milk trucks for home delivery. I have recently included pictures of Madison County milk bottles from collector friends who have some bottles that I don't have. I'm grateful that they have helped me create an up-to-date listing of all the presently known milk bottles in the county.
As any collector will tell you, it's the hunt for something new and rare that gives us an adrenalin rush. It has also been exciting to meet new friends and contacts. Among them is Scott Miner who for years ran his shop in Bouckville, NY. He was always open any time of year no matter what the weather and taught me about antiques and the unwritten ethics of buying and selling.
The picture below shows Scott's wife, Marlene, sitting on the memorial bench dedicated to Scott.
It was at Scott's barn that I met Roger (Thomas) who is known throughout the milk bottle collecting world as a walking encyclopedia on NYS milks which happens to be his ebay seller name. We have been collecting friends for many years.
As you browse through this site please note the bottle show events. I enjoy talking "bottles" as well as buying and selling them. If you have any information or are looking for a particular bottle please contact me.
